Swift
Current Hospital Issues Raised in Question Period
A local couple
raised the latest in a growing number of serious health care
situations due to the lack of beds at the Swift Current Regional
Hospital.
Scott
Taylor and Michelle Essex brought their 3 year-old son to the
hospital at 3 am on June 9th/01. The boy had a
temperature of 105 degrees and a very serious case of tonsillitis.
The physician indicated to him that he would normally admit the
boy, but there were no pediatric beds available.
This situation is
especially concerning in light of the fact that Health Minister
John Nilson, in responding to similar concerns raised in late
winter of this year by Swift Current MLA Brad Wall, indicated that
Mr. Wall was "fear mongering" and that the Swift Current
health care system was simply undergoing difficulties
"outbreak of bronchitis".
Scott and Michelle
raised this issue with MLA Brad Wall and he took the case to the
Official OppositionHealth Critics Rod Gantefber, MLA for Melfoft-Tisdale
and Brenda Bakken, MLA for Wey burn Big-Muddy.
Bakken
will raise the issue in Question Period this afternoon.
