Accomplishments of Swift Current Youth
Mr.
Wall:
— Thank you, Mr. Speaker. It’s a pleasure to rise in
recognition of the accomplishments and character of Swift Current
youth this afternoon. Mr. Speaker, on Wednesday, April 25, I was
honoured to be invited by the grade 8 students in Fairview School
to participate in a panel, along with several local distinguished
residents from Swift Current, to talk about what it means to be
Canadian. The discussions were a part of the “So You’re
Canadian, Eh” unit of study undertaken by the grade 8 students
of Fairview School at the time. They asked excellent questions of
the panellists in order to get us ready to make our presentations;
questions that had all of us taking stock and value of our own
Canadian citizenship. And, Mr. Speaker, I’d also like to
recognize the efforts of the Swift Current Comprehensive High
School music department who, between the dates of April 25 and 30,
competed in the Heritage Music Festival competition in Colorado
Springs. And, Mr. Speaker, I can tell you with some pride that
four groups from the Comp High School went — the Meistersingers;
the wind orchestra; Thursday Night Jazz Band; and the vocal
ensemble, By Design. And each of the four groups won first in
their respective category. So congratulations to the McLeans, the
directors of the music program at the Comp, all of the students in
the music program there; and to the grade 8 students at Fairview
School for their excellent study of Canadian citizenship. Thank
you, Mr. Speaker.
